Commercial

The architects at DePape Associates have been designing commercial and religious projects for twenty years. In that time and in locations as varied as Central America and as well as the Pacific Northwest, we have helped business people and church boards realize their building dreams using the most efficient and cost conscious methods. Multiple projects for the same clients and their colleagues attest to the win-win relationships we encourage among owner, architect and contractor. As community members serving on both public and private building committees and planning commissions, we have experience with the evolution of projects from inception through completion.

Office and Home in Central America

The owner asked for “something “elegant” and “roofy”. He requested a building with the detailing and understatement of a large Mercedes sedan. Years later he says “I see parts of my building around town. It is often imitated. No one has yet equaled what you have done for me.” Responding to our clients and the climatic challenges of the tropics with excellent design is a strength at DePape Associates.

Designer’s Salon

The owners of Designer’s Salon were proposing to create an extraordinarily large styling salon, yet it was important to them that the design feel cozy. They were thinking of a Mediterranean theme. The existing building, a former bank branch, contained a number of angular spaces which were challenging to work with and that were arrayed around the old bank vault which could not be removed due to its extreme cost. Our design solution provided for 26 hair styling stations and a variety of other technicians, while maintaining an intimate atmosphere. The Mediterranean theme, is reflected in the use of arches, the barrel vaulted entry ceiling, and the sequence of intimate spaces on shifting axis, reminiscent of Mediterranean fishing villages. The facility was 97% leased on opening .

Americhild Academy

This high-end childcare facility was born out of a major renovation of an existing tavern. The design made maximum use of the size and proportions of the existing building to allow the owner the option to license the facility for more than 180 children. While very compact and efficient, the individual rooms have a comfortable and cozy, not cramped feeling. The building containing Americhild Academy is one of the oldest buildings in Bothell, Washington. DePape Associates made full use of our extensive knowledge of the building codes and made best use of the existing conditions to develop a design that would meet modern life safety requirements for a highly regulated type of use, while not requiring expensive upgrades to the existing structure.
